Sent vs. Sent Mail (IMAP accounts)
In the app: ☰ › an IMAP account › Sent / Sent Mail
An IMAP account such as Gmail can show two sent-mail folders in the side menu: Sent and the mail server's own folder (Sent Mail for Gmail, often Sent Items on other providers). They hold different things, and both are normal.
Sent — this device's copy
- goCORA keeps a copy of every message you send from goCORA on this device.
- It is stored only on this device, in goCORA's encrypted local storage. It is never uploaded to, or read from, the mail server.
- Refresh (or opening the folder) doesn't contact the server, so there is nothing to wait for.
- It does not contain mail you sent from your webmail, another device, or before you used goCORA. If you haven't sent anything from goCORA on this device, it is empty.
Sent Mail — the server's sent mail
- This is your account's real sent-mail folder on the server, so it includes mail sent from the website, your phone, your computer, and goCORA.
- Gmail saves a copy of anything sent through its servers here automatically, so mail you send from goCORA also appears here after a sync.
- It works like any other server folder. Opening it downloads the 50 newest messages that goCORA doesn't have yet. Each Refresh brings in the next 50, and Load more at the bottom of the list shows older messages that have already been downloaded. A large folder fills in over several refreshes.
- While it downloads, the Retrieving your emails… message appears if nothing is stored yet.
Which one should I use?
- To find anything you have ever sent, use the server's folder (Sent Mail).
- For a quick, always-available record of what you sent from this device, use Sent.
- A message you send from goCORA can appear in both. That is expected, not a duplicate problem.
Good to know
- POP3 accounts have no folders on the server, so they only have the device's Sent folder.
- If your server's sent folder is itself called exactly Sent, goCORA lists a single Sent folder, the device copy, in its place.
- Don't need one of them? Hide it from the side menu. Hiding only removes it from the menu; nothing is deleted.
- If the server's folder doesn't appear after an update, collapse and expand the account in the side menu to reload its folders.
